The basic factors of the human body to produce various physiological reactions by ultrashort wave are thermal effects and non-thermal effects.

Since the human body is a composite tissue with electrical conductors and dielectrics, both conduction currents and displacement currents are formed in the body under the action of ultrashort waves. Because of its higher frequency, the resistance of the dielectric is getting smaller and smaller, it is formed when the ultrashort wave treatment, the displacement current component is dominant, and the media loss heat production is the main. However, when the frequency is extremely high, the dipole is too late to rotate or the rotation amplitude is very small, so that the media loss is reduced and the heat production is reduced. This shows that the proportional relationship between heat production and frequency increases is only applicable to a certain range of oscillation frequencies. However, in the treatment of ultrashort wave capacitance electric field, because there are few blood vessels in the fat layer and heat is not easy to be taken away by blood flow, its temperature is higher than that of muscle with rich blood supply. According to the measurement, when the wavelength is 7.34 m ultrashort wave, the ratio of fat temperature rise to muscle temperature rise is 8:1, and there is still the disadvantage of fat overheating. In actual treatment, the distance between skin and polar plate can be adjusted to raise the deep tissue temperature, skin and subcutaneous fat temperature decreased.

Non-thermal effects. High in the ultra-high frequency capacitance electric field of the organism, by the potential difference voltage, ultra-high frequency electric oscillation wave caused by intracellular material resonance, causing the change of liquid surface tension, the surface tension of some substances increased, the surface tension of other substances decreased. When the high-speed alternating high-frequency electromagnetic wave acts, when the electric field strength is the maximum moment, the cell stretches in the direction of the electric field, and the field strength is the minimum moment and returns to its original state. The electric field of appropriate frequency can make the cells fully expand and contract, produce special stimulation to the cells and tissues, and cause special biological effects.

Ultrashort wave, especially in the use of low intensity, and with all the current methods can not be measured when the temperature rise, its biological effect is still very obvious, and the same conditions of exogenous heat is no similar effect. Such as: when the application of short-term heat-free ultrashort wave effect on the human body, the effect of acute inflammation is more obvious than that of long-term heat effect. In addition, it can also cause the reaction of other tissues and organs, collectively referred to as non-thermal effect. It is found that this non-thermal effect is particularly obvious at low field strength (below 40mw/cm2), and this special effect is masked by the thermal effect at high intensity.
